During the ride, my tour guide (who was speaking Toisanese *gasp* omg someone other than my family who speaks it!) was explaining how the Chinese people up north are different from the people down here. They speak mostly Mandarin, shops close at 9pm, people sleep early and wake up early, their rice grains are bigger and they're cooked so they're a little harder, they don't eat spicey stuff.. that's all I remember, and then she gave me a bottle of water!

So cute! It makes me feel all happy.
My guide checked in my bag for me, gave me my plane ticket, led me to the security checkpoint then left. My flight to Nanjing wasn't until about 10:30am so I don't know why I had to get picked up so dang early. I understood everyone pretty well up until this point. The security lady in the airport was screaming at me in Mandarin! Ahhhh my worst fear... being surrounded by Mandarin speakers because I can't understand a word except "How are you?" "Thank you" "I love you" lol bring back the Toisanese or even Cantonese (since I can somewhat understand it) please!! I didn't know people in Guangzhou speak Mandarin?? Or maybe because it was the airport and Mandarin is the main Chinese dialect. Anyway, after telling the security lady I didn't understand and I speak English, her angry frown turned upside down and she was chirpy and nice to me!
I had over an hour to waste so I wandered around the shops with my new friend Annie and I found this!!

AWESOME. Green cucumber, finger licking braised pork, and breezy blueberry flavor!
I was curious so I bought all three to try them out. They taste interesting. I'm bringing them back to Seattle if anyone wants to try them.
The plane ride to Nanjing was about 2 hours. The flight attendants spoke Mandarin too. She and I both got confused and frustrated when all I wanted was orange juice. It was only a 2 hour flight but I still got a meal!

And it was good too :D
Next post, Nanjing!
